Corruption is the greatest enemy of a nation. The powerful people, especially the ones who play a strategic role in the running of state machinery usually corrupt. It is important to note that only the officials exercising power or authority can corrupt. The major causes of corruption are inordinate avarice of the officials, lack of morality, lack of social hatred towards the corrupt, political patronization, lack of proper application of law against the corrupt, people's trend to luxury etc. The practice of corruption spreads fast like contagious diseases. Corruption deprives the common people of their rights. It hinders all kinds of development and progress. It makes the bad things worse and the nation lags behind. Law and order breaks down and it is root of all kinds of malpractice. But this great problem cannot be controlled due to the lack of effective and honest political will. The government needs to have a real intention to uproot it. However, the present government has launched a massive drive against corruption. The common people need to be more conscious of their rights; we need to show social hatred towards the corrupt. After all, we need to have a strong moral sense and a strong voice against corruption.
