Load Shedding

Load shedding means the temporary disruption or suspension of electricity to an area when its demand surpasses the supply. If the expected amount of power use surpasses the actual supply, the power distribution authority stops supply to some areas by turns. It is called load shedding as it sheds extra load it cannot take. Load shedding causes a lot of problems, since it happens without prior notice. Due to load shedding, mills and factories cannot run and it hampers the production. Electrical equipments in hospitals or factories cannot work, computer users lose unsaved data, electric home appliances go out of order, students cannot study at night, people suffer from sultry heat in summer, and irrigation gets disturbed. In order to stop load shedding we have to set up more new power plants, develop our system of electricity distribution and the national grid line. Illegal connections should be cut off. In addition to these, we also have to stop unnecessary avoidable use of electricity to lessen pressure on it.

Word-note: temporary – impermanent (সমসাময়িক); disruption – disturbance (ব্যাঘাত/বিঘ্ন); suspension – adjournment/interruption (স্থগিতকরণ); surpass – exceed (ছাড়িয়ে যাওয়া); prior – previous (পূর্ব); equipment – tools/appliance (সরঞ্জাম); appliance- equipment/machine (যন্ত্রপাতি); equipment- appliance (যন্ত্রপাতি); Illegal- unlawful (অবৈধ); cut off- detach (বিচ্ছিন্ন করা)।
